30 Mar International Oceans Workshop 2022
After two years of virtual events, the International Oceans Workshop returns to an in-person format with four days of activities at the site of the University of Antioquia in the municipality of Turbo, and the city of Medellín, from 6th – 9th June 2022. There will also be the possibility of viewing online transmissions, in order to reach the greatest audience possible.
This twelfth edition, in the framework of World Ocean Day, will be held with the theme Strategic Coastal Ecosystems: Uses, risks, and resilience, with the objective of promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge between academic experts and community and civil society members, on the collective construction of strategies that promote the conservation of the ocean and environmental, socially sustainable and equitable development in the territories that depend on it.
The planning team, with representatives of the Universidad de Antioquia, the Universidad CES, and CEMarin, has already confirmed some exciting international and national experts: Enrique Crespo from Argentina, Valeria Chávez from Mexico, and Juan Felipe Blanco Libreros, Vladimir Toro Valencia, Milena Hernández and Elvira Alvarado from Colombia, among others, who will give the keynote talks. The schedule of the call to participate in the poster sessions is also ready, in which undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral students in oceanic topics from Ibero-American universities can participate.
As always, the Workshop is accompanied by courses offered by leading international experts, which will take place in person between 10th – 25th June. The location of the courses will be confirmed soon.

- Research methods in urban mangrove ecology
- Marine mammal ecology
- Coral reef restoration
