Mangroves as foundations for Blue Economy course participants (July – 2023)

Why do they trust our course, Green Strategies for Blue Ecosystems?

Experiential Learning is the key, feeling the heart of Colombian biodiversity is an opportunity where you can learn about the integration between scientific knowledge and the ancestral wisdom of communities such as Punta Soldado. This community has faced a series of displacements due to climate change but has found solutions through hybrid solutions, scientific tourism, and mangrove restoration. Similarly, the community of La Plata in Bahía Málaga has established participatory governance associations, turning single mothers into productive women who have made the piangua clam and mangrove monitoring their main source of livelihood.

Our expert academics will also make their contributions, with onboard workshops on whale watching where we will not only observe these marine giants but also listen to their songs with a hydrophone to better understand their behavior and why they choose Colombia as their nursery. Mangrove walks to better understand these ecosystems and their relationship with marine-coastal biodiversity will put us face to face with countless birds, mollusks, crustaceans, and endemic flora, thus complementing both perspectives of the same natural environment.

Certification: Lastly, although this course is more than just an academic opportunity, our participants will receive two certifications: the CEMarin Seal of High Quality Education, endorsed by our 10 member institutions, and a continuing education certificate for 32 hours of training issued by the National University of Colombia and the University of Valle, which will allow you to enhance your professional profile in the protection and management of marine-coastal ecosystems.

This experience is an opportunity to be part of a movement committed to the conservation and sustainable management of marine-coastal biodiversity.
