17 Feb Our CEMarin Publication Featured in the Natural Hazards Center!
We are pleased to announce that the book “Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve: From Local Thinking to Global Actions“ has been selected as one of the highlighted readings of 2025 in the prestigious “New Reads” section of the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado.
This open-access book—meaning it is freely and fully available—is a collective work that brings together 14 chapters developed by 44 experts from various national and international institutions and organizations. The topics explored address the impacts of climate change from a local perspective with a global outlook, presenting the latest trends on the interaction between marine environments and climate change, with a primary focus on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation strategies.
Edited by José Ernesto Mancera Pineda, Andrés F. Osorio, César Toro, and Carolina Sofía Velásquez-Calderón, the book emphasizes the importance of local knowledge and its connection to global actions for the conservation and sustainability of marine-coastal ecosystems. These Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation strategies are crucial to addressing the challenges faced by ecosystems and communities in tropical islands.
Why is this book important?
- It provides essential knowledge for the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve (SBR), an area of significant ecological and cultural value.
- It examines regional climate projections and the balanced relationships between human communities and nature, proposing Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation strategies for tropical islands.
- It highlights the role of Biosphere Reserves as dynamic, living laboratories where local communities demonstrate how development can be safe and sustainable.
- It underscores the vulnerability of tropical islands and coasts to the adverse effects of climate change, positioning them as a research priority with unprecedented intellectual challenges.
- It fosters critical and interdisciplinary thinking, bridging local perspectives with global Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation actions.
This book is proof that cooperation is smarter than competition!
Being featured in the “New Reads” section underscores the relevance of this collective work and CEMarin’s commitment to cutting-edge research in marine sciences. This recognition reflects the joint effort of all contributors, whose dedication has helped highlight the environmental wealth of the Seaflower Reserve and the need for concrete Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation strategies.
We deeply thank each researcher, author, and collaborator who made this publication possible. This achievement is another step in our mission to generate knowledge that inspires local actions with global impact.
